Seminar Series for New or Aspiring Special Education Team Leaders


Program Description
This 5-session seminar is designed to meet the needs of educators who aspire to leadership roles in Special Education. It is appropriate for those who are currently working as teachers or counselors and would like to become Team Leaders, or for those currently in leadership roles who would like to strengthen their skills. While the program is designed as a seminar series, participation in individual sessions will be considered for a reduced fee.

Primary Instructor
Sharon Stewart has taught courses, seminars, and workshops for educators all over the north shore, mostly related to special education. She has provided coaching and mentoring to others across our region, both formally and informally. She has been a Special Education Administrator for 21+ years and a Special Education Coordinator and teacher for another 16 years.

The Seminars will takes place Tuesdays from 3-5pm at Northshore Academy Cafeteria, 126 Sohier Road, Beverly

We will covering the following topics:

December 6: Who, What, How do Students Qualify for an IEP? Why a Section 504 should never be the ‘consolation prize!’: Thinking about Evaluation, Eligibility and Placement
January 17: The Contract: IEP Program Development
February 7: You want me to listen to who and to do what?! : Building and Nurturing Effective Teams
March 7: Why can’t we all just get along?: Building Consensus and Resolving Conflict
April 4: Yes, sometimes it is about Lawyers, (hired) Guns, and Money!: Working with parents, lawyers and advocates.
*****May 2 snow date if needed
Registration Fee: $250 for educators from NEC Member Districts, $300 for Nonmember Districts

Participants will receive 10 PDPs upon completion of all five 2-hour sessions.
